From Fairies to the Frontlines of Climate Action: Fleur Rossdale’s Vision Inspires a Global Movement for Young Changemakers

Fleur Rossdale, a celebrated British designer turned climate visionary, is leading a new kind of environmental movement - one powered by children, fuelled by storytelling, and backed by science. Her creation, the Direct Climate Cooling Initiative (DCCI) School Awards, is turning classrooms into launchpads for real-world climate solutions.

At the heart of this initiative is The Woodland Sprite Series - Rossdale’s enchanting collection of children’s books where fantasy meets environmental urgency. Through theatre, performance, and creative school-led fundraising, students bring the stories to life while championing the very causes the books illuminate - from rewilding to regenerative farming.

Held annually in Brussels, the DCCI School Awards gather student climate leaders, scientists, policymakers, and businesses to celebrate bold school-led action. But this isn’t just a trophy moment—it’s a powerful network. Participating schools connect with climate pioneers such as Justdiggit, Klim, EverGreening Africa, and Jong Voedselbosboeren the food forest farmers, making real contributions to global cooling efforts.

“When children play a role in their own future, they gain the courage to change it,” says Rossdale. “The stories open the door, but the action makes it real.”

Through DCCI, Rossdale is merging art, education, and actionism - offering kids readers a front-row seat to a movement where young minds take centre stage in the race to restore the planet.
